Lode van Zuylen and Stijn Remi are friends since culinary school and decided to pursue their dreams of fine comfort food in a casual bistro setting together. Located in a small side street in trendy Kreuzberg, the vibe is sophisticated yet very casual, with simple, elegant wooden chairs and strikingly beautiful Flos lamps from the 70s. Sometimes remarkably simple food based on excellent ingredients, with fine-dining skills shining through from underneath. Their signature beef tartar, on Lode van Zuylen’s very own charred sourdough – by far the best bread in town – served with an oyster emulsion and fried capers, is a unforgettable plate of perfection. The deep fried beef ragout Bitterballen, something you normally wouldn’t travel to their home country Netherlands for, makes you reconsider your culinary prejudices of the land of herring and Gouda: here served with a fresh and light mayonnaise, it’s worth a trip in itself.
