This is a fantastic ocakbaşı, grill house, near the pedestrian-only Istiklal Street in Beyoğlu. The long rectangular coal grill with a copper hood is the show-stopper, with skewers of meat, onions, peppers and tomatoes gently touching the heat over the evening. A meal at Zübeyir should start off with a round of mezes like the piquant gavurdağ salatası, with finely diced onions and tomatoes, it’s a must especially now during summer months when tomatoes are in their prime. The carefully supervised grill will offer you Adana kebab, chicken wings, lamb chops and ribs of outstanding quality. Make a reservation in advance to get a seat by the grill and watch Zübeyir, the master Usta do his thing. It’s good enough for Anthony Bourdain, so should be good enough for you.
